In 1735, Marquis Carlo Ginori studied soil and color, and established a kiln in his territory in Doccia, close to Florence. In 1896, it merged with Richard Seikosha in Milan to become the present Ginori 1735, and in 1956 it merged with the Italian ceramic company in Laveno, becoming Italy's largest ceramic manufacturer.
